Affordable Housing Programs: Resources for first-time homeownership and home improvements.  Available: All 21 Counties

 

Affordable Rental Units: Affordable rental housing properties for income eligible families.  Available: Ainsworth, Alda, Cairo, Central City, Greeley, Loup City, and O’Neill

 

Bright Starts: Parenting program to enhance parenting skills and link families with services.  Available: Blaine, Boyd, Brown, Cherry, Custer, Garfield, Greeley, Holt, Howard, Keya Paha, Loup, Rock, Sherman, Valley, and Wheeler

 

Child Safety Seat Program: Child safety seats along with education on proper usage to families.  Available: All 21 Counties and Cherry

 

Community Capacity Building Program: Facilitate community planning for communities desirous of community and economic development in partnership with UNK.  Available: All 21 Counties

 

Commodity Supplemental Food Program: Food supplement packages are provided to income eligible women, infants and children up to age 6, as well as elderly over age 60.  Available: All 21 Counties and Cherry County – Clinic locations in Broken Bow, Columbus, O’Neill, Grand Island and Loup City

 

Community Help Center:  Assesses person’s situation and links them to the appropriate resources.  Available: Hall

 

Counseling, Testing, Referral, Partner Notification Site: Testing for the HIV virus, pre-and post-test counseling, education and goal planning services.  Available: Testing sites located in Ainsworth and O’Neill

 

Early Childhood Education Projects (2): Comprehensive preschool program serving children ages 3 to 5. Centura Public School and Schuyler Grade School provide early childhood care and education services in collaboration with CNCS Head Start.  Available: Centura Public School serving Howard and Hall Counties and Schuyler Grade School serving Colfax County

 

Early Head Start: Program for pregnant women and families with children ages 0-3 which focuses on parent education, comprehensive health services and nutrition.  Available: Brown, Colfax, Custer, Garfield, Greeley, Howard, Platte (center-based option available), Sherman, and Valley

 

Early Head Start Childcare Initiative: Provides monetary compensation to childcare providers to enhance quality of the childcare provided in their facilities.  Available: Brown, Colfax, Cuter, Garfield, Greeley, Holt, Howard, Platte, Sherman, and Valley

 

Early Development Network Services Coordination: CNCS is the lead agency and employs the service coordinators to coordinate for early intervention services for children and families of children with disabilities.  Available: Antelope, Boyd, Brown, Cherry, Holt, Keya Paha, Madison (excluding Norfolk), Pierce, Rock, Stanton, and Wheeler

 

Emergency Assistance: Funds available to provide financial assistance to homeless or near homeless individuals/families for utility or rental assistance, or deposits.  Available: All 21 Counties

 

Environmental Protection Agency Small Grant: Provide private well water testing for low-income families and radon remediation to low-income homes with high levels of radon.  Available: All 21 Counties

 

Even Start: Shared learning experience for parents who are continuing their education for GED, ESL, and high school and their children ages 0-8.  Available: Platte

 

Every Woman Matters: Low or no cost health checkups for women who are 40+ years and underinsured or uninsured.  Available: All 21 Counties and Cherry

 

Family Self Sufficiency Program:  Case management support services provided to Section 8 participants to assist clients in achieving economic self-sufficiency with the potential to build a savings account.  Available: All 21 Counties

 

Food Pantries: Donated food, household and personal items are available for low- income families on an emergency basis.  Available: Ainsworth, Arnold, Broken Bow, Central City, Loup City, O’Neill, Ord, Sargent, and St. Paul

 

Head Start: A nationally renowned child development program for children ages 3 to 5, which stresses parent involvement, education, social services, and health.  Available: Boone, Brown, Colfax, Custer, Garfield, Greeley, Hamilton, Holt, Howard, Merrick, Nance, Platte, Sherman, and Valley.  Full-day, full-year options exist in Platte and Colfax.  

 

Health Check Clinic: Comprehensive wellness exam for children ages 2 months to 20 years.  Available: O’Neill

 

Hope Offers People Empowerment (HOPE): Case management that focuses on strengths of the family and provides intensive support services to families/individuals that want to address challenges and improve their quality of life.  Available: All 21 Counties

 

Immunizations: Vaccinations to reduce risk of contracting childhood illnesses and diseases for children ages birth through 18 years of age.  Available: Clinic Sites in Ainsworth, Albion, Atkinson, Bassett, Broken Bow, Burwell, Columbus, Fullerton, Greeley, Loup City, O’Neill, Ord St. Paul, Schuyler, Spencer, and Valentine

 

Lead Hazard Reduction and Remediation Program: Lead inspections and risk assessments to determine presence of lead hazards.  Rehabilitation provided to remove the lead hazards.  Available: All 21 Counties and Cherry

 

Lifespan Respite Network Program: Assist in connecting respite providers with families needing respite care. 1-866-737-7483.  Available: All 21 Counties and 24 additional counties (45 Counties in north central Nebraska total)

 

North Central Early Childhood Training Coalition: Builds the capacity of local childcare providers to assure quality services for children in childcare settings.  Available: Blaine, Boyd, Brown, Cherry, Cuter, Garfield Greeley, Holt, Howard, Keya Paha, Loup, Rock, Sherman, Valley and Wheeler

 

P.H.O.N.E.Project: Public health nursing case management to children enrolled in Kid’s Connection and Medicaid.  Available: Blaine, Boyd, Brown, Custer, Garfield, Greeley, Holt, Howard, Keya Paha, Loup, Sherman, Valley, and Wheeler

 

Reading is Fundamental (RIF): Provides books and education to parents to create literacy-rich homes for their children.  Available: All Head Start and Early Head Start Locations

 

Rural Business Enterprise: Small, new and existing businesses can apply for a low interest loan and receive training and technical assistance at no cost to them.  Available: All 21 Counties

 

Seat Belt Initiatives: Activities to increase occupant restraint use and safe driving practices.  Available: Colfax and Hamilton

 

Section 8 Rent Subsidy: Provides rent subsidy assistance to eligible households through the issuance of vouchers.  Available: All 21 Counties

 

Senior Center: Noon meals and socialization offered to elderly.  Available: Sherman County

 

Supportive Housing Program: A program designed to provide intensive case management support services for people who are homeless. The program assists homeless people to secure permanent housing and become self-sufficient.  Available: Hall

 

Transitional Housing for Rural Independence, Viability and Economic Stability (THRIVES):  Assists homeless in obtaining safe and suitable transitional housing. Participants receive intensive case management to enhance their skills for self-sufficiency and secure and maintain permanent housing.  Available: All 21 Counties and Cherry

 

Weatherization: Income eligible homeowners and renters receive repairs and efficiency measures that result in saving energy.  Available: All 21 Counties

 

Women, Infants, and Children (WIC): Pregnant and postpartum women and children through age five receive monthly food checks and basic health monitoring and nutrition counseling.  Available: Clinic Sites in Ainsworth, Atkinson, Aurora, Bassett, Broken Bow, Burwell, Central City, Greeley, Loup City, O’Neill, Ord, Spencer, St. Paul and Valentine
